Escapade, Janet Jackson

If I am what I watch, then you may start by identifying  my character as a polygamous, reality-star-teen that is actively getting into hijinks because I am raising a baby while managing my life as a pop-star who happens to compete in food competitions. (Apologies for the longest run-on sentence) 

Everyone has a television quirk on where or how they watch.  For me I can view a fair amount of television by fast-forwarding. Variety show judges are not the reason for the show so I skip them.  Some teen dramas are easy to fast-forward because the plot always thickens the last 10 minutes. 

Some television shows that I currently am watching: 

Sister Wives. 

Yes it's the television show that people watch because it's a curious phenomena. I have to say that when people try to show how real they are, the theory alone misses the boat. Few people are able to show how much they are like everyone else, especially when they have lifestyle not seen.  Watching this show creates the sensation like you are about to find yourself in a car accident.  Time drastically slows down, because you realize a car is about to hit you. 

Food Network Challenge

I like the creative and DIY characteristics of this show.  Plus it's an easy one to watch because all the action happens in the second half-hour. 

Teen Mom 

The situation of  these teens who have gone through childbirth either inspiring or problematic. You have some teen mom's who are living the best life while making decisions with the environment they are in (Maci, Caitlin) or you have teens who didn't get the rebellious energy out of their system (Farrah, Amber). The latter make me feel uncomfortable to watch. So much so that I silently pray they can get things together.

Parenthood

I think my taste in television dramas is changing. I have always been one to follow teenage dramas, but there is something about this show that's different. Perhaps it's the all-star cast or the adult experiences the characters are faced with. I still need to see the movie on this one. 

Community

I love Joel McHale's snarky cynicism.  This half hour comedy makes me laugh because the plot and characters are spot onto what I encounter at the University. My favorite character is Abed Nadir because he spurts out random facts and pop culture knowledge.

Soul Meets Body, Death Cab for Cutie

Ever think about what happens after you die?  Not as in heaven vs hell, but what you want to be said, sung, or done at your funeral?

Whether it's considered morbid or not, I recently thought about what I would like to have sung at my funeral. Many of the choices are secular, and not religious.  Perhaps the reason for this is that I think several songs can have spiritual meaning without religious ties or a page number in a hymn book.

The following are some my choices:

Earlier in life I thought Casper was the world's greatest movie. Nerdy I know. I remember writing in my elementary school journal that I wanted all my friends to sing the following song. Now I dunno.The song now makes me laugh.

Here I Am, Leona Lewis

Thanks to a friend, I got to see a screening of It's Kind of a Funny Story last week. Great dramedy that where many of the film's events reminded me of when I lived in Tacoma, Washington.

Several times a week when life slowed, my time was spent volunteering in a psychiatric group home. The film reminded me of the hilarious moments, as well as those experiences that revealed  we all need a little love and someone to talk to.  

The plot of the movie revolves around a teen boy who is depressed and rather than committing suicide checks himself into the psychiatric ward of a hospital. There he encounters some new friends and learns that the world is a better place when you do not try to force people out of your life. 

In one scene the boy talks to his psychiatrist, who shares the following quote:

 This quote resonated with me and I am trying to discover why...

How does one realize what things he/she can change? What do you take away from this quote?

Ghost of a Good Thing, Dashboard Confessional

After an extremely long day at work, I was beat.  I arrived home to find a package on my doorstep addressed to me. My first thought was that it was a bomb, but quickly realized the idea was ridiculous.  So with a extra skip in my step, I excitedly went to get some scissors to open the surprise. 

With a wrestle of the packaging I finally removed the packaging to reveal this...

I may or (may not have) blurted out "GHOSTWRITER...WORD," but if I did it was loud enough for my mom to walk out of her office and ask what was going on. I have always loved this tv show, and within the past month several conversations have revolved around it.

I was so excited to receive this.  I looked at the packing slip, but it did not contain any detail as to who sent the gift. I have some ideas of whom it may be, but not quite sure.  Should you have sent me this wonderfully sentimental gift, could you email me with a "Rally _ " note so I can properly thank you?!!

You know you are a fan of the library when:

• Your visits are frequent, and you have it scheduled into your plans.
• You have your library card memorized.
• When deciding if you should purchase a book/CD/DVD, you remind yourself that you could save $$$ and get it from el Bibliotec for free! 
• You already know your favorite locations of books.
• When checking out DVD/CD, you always inspect the disc to see if it's acceptable. 
• You have a cycle of holds that is ALWAYS filled to capacity. 
• You get confused on why the "other" library doesn't use the Dewey Decimal system. 

 How do you know if you are a fan of the library? 

We R One, Same Difference

With the election season upon us, I have been thinking about the following thought: 

Is it better for a politician to stick to their guns or to have the ability to compromise?  

The obvious answer is that a good candidate or party should have both strengths. If I had to choose only one, I think one's ability to compromise is a more promising asset to a body of people.  Very rarely is there ever a decision that works for ALL people. With this crazy game of politics I need to remember this more often.
