Have a power outage kit, including:

~ a flashlight with extra batteries
~ lantern
~ matches
~ glow-in-the-dark light sticks
~ wind-up clock
~ portable radio
~ manual can opener
~ mylar blanket

~Know how to manually override your electric garage door if you have one.
