King of Anything, Sara Bareilles

I sure ain't Oprah, but in my little naive mind, I like to pretend I am. 

Thus it's time for the 3RD ANNUAL GIVEAWAY:

One of my favorite albums from this past year is Sara Bareilles album, Kaleidoscope Heart. It not only captures the fun dancey songs, but also those sentimental moments when your heart doesn't know how to say what its feeling. It's the perfect gift for indie/top 40 listeners!

I think Sara B, sums up her album pretty well, based on her description of the title.

"I picked out the name of the record months before I even finished writing the songs. I love the imagery of those words, and they’re really representative of how I envision my heart. It's a colorful but fragmented, ever-changing sum of all the bits and pieces that make it up. A kaleidoscope is the tool that helps make sense of the mess. Or at least makes it nice to look at."

Thanks to a good friend, I was able to cross this off my bucket-list:

Ever since I was a young tyke, I always enjoyed seeing the Rockettes (formerly the Roxyettes after John Rockefeller) on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

While the talent and dance numbers were full of talent and precision, it seemed like the order of the pieces and dance material was a bit odd.  You can't tell me that a bunch of people dressed in teddy bear costumes (aka Disney Black Market-umes) dancing to the nutcracker suite is not odd.

BUT this had to be my favorite number because a) The bus and the visuals were so in sync it really felt they were travelling  b) The animators captured the streets of NYC spot on, right down to what each building on 5th Ave looked like:





PS Curious to count the high kicks? Set your DVR's because PBS will be airing "Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring the Rockettes!" For those in the Rocky Mountains tune into KBYU Tuesday (tonight) at 7:00 PM!

I honestly don't get it.  There's a certain craze that can be seen at your work, retail stores, and even family Christmas photos! IT NEEDS TO STOP NOW. I personally have not tried it, but I don't think I want to!

I am talking about the McRib. It does not look appetizing (just look at the manufactured shape), and from what I hear it's entirely addictive- just.like.cigarettes. I have heard that the reason the McRib is always a limited offer is because it depletes the pork supply too drastically. Blech

Well McDonalds realizes that the sandwich is an illegal addictive substance, that is why when you buy a McRib value meal, you can get a second sandwich for only $1.00 more.

Days Go On, Greg Laswell

Earlier this year I happened to turn a magical age. At my family birthday party my niece mentioned something profound.  ...at least in the pop-culture-fun-world.

She discovered that a person's age is always related to the corresponding channel, thus providing a predictor for events for the following year.   Pretty brilliant I must say! 

My age happens to be the same channel number as Nickelodeon. What does this television revelation mean? While I have always been a kid at heart, I am noticing maturity leaking into my life. I no longer want to always run around, but I want to find someone and stabilize my life. This could be predicted by Nick's programming goes from shows aimed at kids to their Nick @ Nite shows.

Looking ahead, I am headed towards ABC Family... Could this mean I will be having a baby crawling around?  Odd I know.

Why am I posting this?  Well I want to know what your "channel age" says about you. I have posted the channels according to Comcast standards:

Paparazzi, Lady Gaga

I recently attended the Lifehouse concert on Monday thanks to a good friend. At the show I experience an amateur paparazzo.  For whatever reason, this girl felt she needed to capture every moment of the concert by video or a snapshot.

For the people sitting behind her, aka me, this got to be really annoying because her camera was always in my viewpoint of the lead singer. 

Concert Etiquette rule #1: There is a fine line of capturing memories periodically and acting like you are a camera-operator for an awards show.  Be a fan and considerate of others around you!

When you get together with your friends or family, ever notice that when they describe events from their life, some are the best entertainers, whereas others are dry as a gulch?

• One of the best story tellers I have ever heard is from a childhood/high school "frenemy" (Details on our friendship in another post). Whether it was picking up groceries or a bad date, she had the capability to hook you into her story that it was captivating! In my mind she is still in the running for America's Top Story-teller.

• Then there is me. Sometimes when I tell events to friends or family, I either skip pertinent details with hopes of getting to the punch line faster thus being misunderstood, or I try to recount an event and not provide just enough details.

• There are others who include so many details and randomness to their story that it's boring and hard to pay attention. I literally scream in my head when this happens.

No Good with Faces, Jack Johnson

I understand people love Halloween for its thrills, themed apparel-fun, and sugared out spooks. But for me I dislike all the festivities. When I was younger, I would hide in my bedroom so that my Mom couldn't force me to go trick-or-treating. All the festivities have been meh to me.

Last year 70's disco star and David Archuleta costume was not considered "dressing up." This year I am going to a few Halloween parties, and I need your HELP to what I will be dressing up as! I always stress about what I should be.  I was originally going to be Sue Sylvester from Glee, but learned that I would be politely removed banned from entering certain events due to cross dressing. 

 Which costume/idea do like best?

Priest/Preacher: Simple, and black is always in style.

Explorer: Complete with compass, glasses, and adventuresome apparel

80's Albertson's cashier.  Complete with Polyester uniform 

Pirate: Costume would be very similar to what's pictured. Hand on hip, not ideal.

80's Workout instructor.  Less spandex, more tattered hoodie and sweatpants. Head and wristbands included.
